Inshore or offshore fishing

Over the years, Costa Rica has become the dream destination for world-class sport fishing, with vast recognition from tournaments held at Los Sueños Triple Crown and the Offshore World Championship, Costa Rica. For the past three years, both tournaments have broken multiple records and countless magazines on fishing, adventure shows and even ESPN have come to witness and partake in the action.
Fishing is one of the more expensive activities you can enjoy anywhere in the world. It is a costly investment when you factor in fuel, bait, tackle and maintenance. Our local fishing experts will guide you in choosing the right boat for a ‘lifetime fishing experience”!

Offshore fishing is not the greatest from December to March, as the trade winds on the North Pacific blow from East to West up to 15-20 knots, making the area very poor for fishing conditions. However, at this time of year, inshore fishing is great within the gulf of Papagayo as it is home to some of the biggest roosterfish in Costa Rica.

June through October the trade winds die down and the seas are calm. The Sailfish, Marlin, Tuna and Dorado show up in large numbers for great offshore fishing. During these months, on any given day, you can catch all four in one trip. Many of the fish, by government regulations are “catch & release”.

May and November are transitional months, when there is a change in seasons. These are usually calm months and offer great fishing in any part of the country!
