Hot Springs

While Costa Rica forms part of the Central American Volcanic arc, with some active and some non-active volcanoes, for millennia, the nation’s 200+ volcanic formations have heated groundwater to form thermal pools and therapeutic mud – nature’s own spa. People visit the hot springs for their restorative properties which have medicinal qualities from mineral rich waters and relaxing elements.

There are all kinds of hot spring settings throughout the country, mainly located close to volcanoes, near the central mountain range of Costa Rica.  Some are found at the base of a volcano with carefully landscaped gardens to give it a romantic feel or others that have more the social component with a wet bar and water slides and deep pools to plunge into.
