The jungles of Costa Rica are a haven for zip line tours. Zip line tours are available almost everywhere in Costa Rica. These are a fun, half day activity that can be enjoyed by all. When you arrive to the zip line site, you will be suited up with a harness that fits snug around your waist and groin. You will also carry on your harness some carabiners that are doubled up for safety so you will always be connected to the main steel cables that allow you to fly from one platform to another. Make sure you wear closed walking shoes or sneakers, for security and also because some hiking takes place between platforms. You wouldn’t want to lose your shoes when you are so high up in the trees!
The classic zip line tour has 8 to 15 cables that are united by platforms on trees or metal structures. The distance between platforms ranges between 100 feet to nearly half a mile long. While zipping through and above trees, you learn so much about botany, ecology and reforestation practices. One of the country’s most adventurous zip lines includes a dual action zip line, where participants may go side by side in couples. This particular zip line has ocean views and is ranked top 5 in the world.
If zip lining is not enough, you may also enjoy flying horizontally like the Man of Steel himself or free fall from a treetop platform to do the Tarzan Swing. Tree rappelling, aerial trams, hanging bridges are also great options available on spot.
